Inter Miami are plotting a sensational move for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.
According to TyC Sports, Miami hope to sign him on a free transfer this summer but will face serious competition from clubs across Europe.
Silva’s contract with City runs out at the end of the season, and there’s a strong possibility that he could be heading for the exit.
The 31-year-old has been vocal about his desire to explore new adventures abroad, so the chances of extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium are slim.
The Portuguese midfielder has yet to clarify where his future lies, but several clubs are already lining up to secure his services this summer.
Miami are looking to provide Lionel Messi with more firepower and are looking to Europe to bring in more experienced players.
While Silva ticks that box, luring him away from Europe may be a different challenge altogether.
Miami have endured a mixed start to their Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup title defence, winning three of their opening five games (D1, L1).
Javier Mascherano’s side were also eliminated by Nashville from the CONCACAF Champions Cup last 16.
Both sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg, before rounding up the tie with a 1-1 draw at Chase Stadium, sending Nashville through on away goals.
Miami responded to that setback with a 3-2 victory at New York City, with Messi on the scoresheet. They now want to bring in Silva to lift some of the weight off Messi’s shoulders.
However, Miami will have to fend off serious competition from a host of European clubs, including Juventus. They are reportedly preparing to offer Silva a three-year contract.
Silva’s international teammate Francisco Conceicao is also pushing Juventus’ hopes of landing the City midfielder by talking up their long-term ambitions.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is also a driving force behind the club’s push to sign Silva. The midfielder is also attracting interest from Benfica, Galatasaray and the Saudi Pro League.
