Federico Dimarco scored a lovely opener and picked up the Panini Player of the Match award as Inter Milan beat Genoa 2-0 at San Siro, but the Italy wing-back was in no mood to celebrate individually, insisting his impressive personal numbers count for nothing without silverware at the end of the season.

Dimarco spoke to both Sky Sport and DAZN after the final whistle, with his message consistent across both interviews, the team comes first.

Speaking to Sky, he was asked about what has been a remarkable individual campaign, but quickly steered the conversation back to collective goals.

“It is a good season, but if these numbers don’t lead to team trophies they matter less,” he said.

“I would rather score fewer and win the league.”

On DAZN, Dimarco was equally grounded when praised for his form, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“Hard work always pays off, if the goals lead to a title, great. If they are an end in themselves, they count for little.”

The reaction after Champions League elimination was a key theme.

“It is never easy to bounce back after a defeat, but every time Inter have lost a game they have shown unity and come back stronger,” he said on Sky.

“We saw that today, we had some difficult moments because the tiredness from Bodo was felt. But we move forward because we are close now.”

On DAZN he added: “From here to the end every win will be heavy. This team after defeats has always reacted like a great side. It was important to win and maintain the gap.”

With the Coppa Italia semi-final and the derby both approaching, Dimarco kept his focus firmly on the next task.

“Few messages to send, first there is the Coppa Italia. Then we will think about the derby.”
