Denzel Dumfries was all smiles after Inter Milan’s emphatic 5-2 Easter Sunday demolition of Roma, praising the togetherness of a group he described as feeling like a family while expressing good-natured disappointment at missing out on a goal himself.
Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, via FCInterNews, the Dutch wing-back was effusive about the team’s collective performance and the importance of returning to winning ways in style.
“Today was a great performance from us,” he said.
“I am happy about the return of Lautaro and Calha, important players for us. We are a strong group and this is the right path to the end of the season.”
On how much the victory meant after back-to-back draws, Dumfries was equally direct.
“It is very important after two draws. Every match now is a final, we must win the Scudetto so we must win every game. The path is right, we must continue like this.”
The wing-back saved his warmest words for the squad’s camaraderie.
“This is a special group. We have been together for many years and it is like a family, with many players who have given so much for Inter and who are genuinely happy when one of them scores. That is why the embraces are so strong.”
On his near-miss with a lob that drew a reaction from Thuram, Dumfries laughed.
“He wanted me to score. Marcus is a player who jokes a lot. Bonny gave me a great ball, unfortunately the goal was missing. Too bad, but we won and that is the most important thing.”
“After the international break we came back with a different mentality. I saw a team playing together today, it was not easy after the national teams. We have a great squad with great quality and this was a fundamental victory for us.”
