Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris admits that the team’s Serie A games in hand on Napoli are “not easy.”
The Nerazzurri assistant coach gave his thoughts to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s match against Napoli.
At the moment, Inter are six points behind Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.
That is a pretty significant gap.
However, the Nerazzurri do have a pretty big ace up their sleeve. They have currently played two matches fewer than the Partenopei.
Inter face Empoli this evening. That will give them the chance to get to within three points of Napoli at the top of the table.
Then, there will be the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina.
That match will take place some time next month.
The Nerazzurri and La Viola had actually kicked off their league meeting at the Stadio Artemio Franchi at the start of December.
However, that was the match in which midfielder Edoardo Bove suffered a shock health emergency.
Therefore, the match was abandoned temporarily, in consideration of the seriousness of the circumstances.
But Inter and Fiorentina will pick up where they left off soon enough. And that could see the Nerazzurri catch up with Napoli at the top.
However, there is certainly no guarantee of that happening.
Inter assistant coach Farris admitted of the games in hand that “Playing with this asterisk isn’t easy.”
“Because we can talk about the hypotheticals of where we can be,” he noted. “But Napoli are already there.”
“And today, we can only get closer to them with three points.”
Of Inter’s Serie A draw with Bologna, Farris said that “We studied it, even though we didn’t have a lot of time because we played on Wednesday.”
“The pressure is high,” he admitted. “But the guys are ready.”
“The draw against Bologna left a bad taste in our mouths,” Farris said. “But we put in a great performance despite the amount of energy we’d spent against Venezia.”
And Farris also gave his thoughts on midfielder Kristjan Asllani and striker Mehdi Taremi. Both are in the Inter starting eleven this evening.
“We know that wearing the Inter shirt is not easy,” he said of the pressure.
But Farris said Asllani “always gives everything for this shirt.”
“He did well against Venezia. And his match against Bologna wasn’t negative at all.”
The Inter assistant coach added that “We’re convinced Taremi will give us the contribution he needs to in terms of goals.”
“He’s a player who has good movement in the area,” he said of the Iranian international.
