Inter Milan’s sporting director has confirmed the club are monitoring Curtis Jones ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Liverpool midfielder has been widely linked with a move away from the club this summer after he was limited to a fringe role under Arne Slot last season, during which he struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI.

He is entering the final year of his contract and was linked with moves to both Inter and Tottenham in the January transfer window, and Serie A seems a likely destination should he decide to call time on his 16-year association with the Reds and look to greener pastures.

Inter were among the first clubs reported to be interested in him this summer, and their interest has now been confirmed by sporting director Piero Ausilio.

He told reporters on Sunday: “Curtis Jones, we are paying attention to him. We didn't hide. We understand what the developments will be.”

Ausilio’s statement follows Federico Chiesa’s surprise revelation that Jones had come to him to discuss life in his native Italy, suggesting he was considering Inter’s approach.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “All he (Jones) asked me was what life is like in Italy.

“I told him it’s great and the weather is better than in Liverpool which, other than that, is a special place.

“Jones, technically, is a really good player. Inter do well to think about signing him.”

Inter may not stop at signing Jones, though. Further reporting from Gazzetta suggests they are looking to emulate Napoli’s transfer strategy.

The report states the Nerrazurri are impressed by Napoli’s success in signing the likes of Scott McTominay, Rasmus Hojlund and Billy Gilmour, and will follow their lead in looking to out-of-favour Premier League stars to bolster their ranks.
