Lautaro Martinez feels that Inter Milan “have to keep improving” after their narrow 1-0 Serie A win over Venezia.

Martinez spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews. He stressed that the Nerazzurri risk getting “left behind” if they do not keep working and growing.

Inter got the three points they were after against Venezia this evening.

But it was far from the most convincing victory from the Nerazzurri.

A lack of clinical finishing from Inter meant that the match was balanced on a knife edge for much of the ninety minutes.

There was late drama in the form of a Venezia equalizer deep into stoppage time which was disallowed for an apparent handball by scorer Marin Sverko.

The result was the important thing as Inter drew to within a point of Napoli after the Partenopei’s defeat against Atalanta earlier today.

But the Nerazzurri will be certain of one thing. If they keep having matches like this evening’s, it will be very difficult for them to retain their Serie A title.

Martinez looked back on the breathless finale and late drama. “In the first half there were zero minutes of added time,” he noted. “In the second, there were seven.”

Then, the Inter captain stated that “We have to improve to keep moving forward.”

“If we keep going like this, then football will leave us behind,” he said.

“If we want to play an even better kind of football then we need to give our all,” Martinez said.

“That’s why I get frustrated.”

“We need to kill off matches sooner,” the Inter captain added. “But it’s a long season, and we have to work on these things.”
