Inter Milan have a chance this afternoon to strengthen their grip at the top of the Serie A table as they travel to Udine, a venue that also offers an opportunity for redemption after the unexpected defeat earlier this season.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of kick-off, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta reflected on that loss and the progress made since, while also offering a heartfelt tribute to the late Rocco Commisso.

Marotta began by remembering the Fiorentina owner, expressing condolences on behalf of both himself and Inter Milan.

“Commisso was one of the last patron-style presidents in football,” he said.

“At the same time, he maintained a strong entrepreneurial vision, shown through the Viola Park and the redevelopment of the Franchi. Above all, he had immense passion. He was born in Italy, found success abroad, and then returned to live this sport in a city like Florence. I hope his family continue what he started.”

Turning to Inter’s recent form, Marotta highlighted the emotional response shown in the win over Lecce. “That embrace showed a key moment in the season,” he explained.

“Not only technical quality, but also mental strength. This league drains you physically and psychologically. Against Lecce we won with anger and motivation, qualities that Chivu has transmitted to the squad. Today we face a team built on physicality, and that is the spirit we need.”

Finally, Marotta addressed the defeat suffered against Udinese earlier in the campaign. “I believe that loss was simply a matter of circumstances, with full respect to Udinese,” he said.

“It came during a period of technical change, so the coach needed time to understand workloads. Now the values have emerged. Being top means little at this stage because the competition is fierce, but we are one of the teams that will fight for the Scudetto until the end.”
