Cristian Chivu was full of admiration for his players after Inter Milan made it five wins in a row by defeating Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico – a result that sends the Nerazzurri joint-top of Serie A alongside the Giallorossi and Napoli.

Speaking to Sky Sport, Chivu underlined how the team’s attitude and unity have been central to their turnaround this season.

“It’s all thanks to these players who immediately immersed themselves in the reality of this league,” he began, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“They’ve left behind the disappointments of last season and put themselves back on the line to show they’re strong and ready to fight in every competition.”

The Romanian coach, who has steadily reshaped Inter’s tactical identity, said his pride lies in the team’s commitment and understanding of key moments.

“I’m proud of how they prepare, how they approach certain matches.

“And how they read situations, and how they suffer together when they need to,” he explained.

“They challenge themselves every day despite the difficulties. Coming off an international break is always unpredictable.

“A lot of players have played two full matches in a few days – so I’m really happy with how we interpreted the game tonight.

“Playing here in Rome is never easy. They’re a strong team, well-coached, and with a crowd like this, it’s not simple for anyone.”

One of the clear evolutions in Chivu’s Inter has been their ability to press aggressively.

The coach acknowledged that this aspect is something he is proud to see developing, even if it remains a work in progress.

“We try to do it, yes,” he confirmed.

“But there are matches where it’s more difficult.

“In the first half, we pressed hard and spent a lot of energy.

“It was our first full session together after the break.

“Roma play with great width, sometimes double or even triple, so it’s not easy. You can get exposed through the middle and make Dybala’s job easier between the lines. As long as we had energy, we did it quite well.”

In the second half, Inter were forced to dig deep, but Chivu was satisfied with how his side managed the game under pressure.

“We dropped off a bit physically, and Roma’s quality made us defend lower,” he admitted.

“But we were intelligent – we suffered when we needed to.
