Inter Milan are determined to trigger the Dortmund linked Aleksandar Stankovic buy-back clause this summer, with the Serbia midfielder identified as a cornerstone of the club’s midfield rebuild regardless of what else happens in the transfer window.
According to Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, the Inter hierarchy are united on this point.
Whatever occurs with Calhanoglu’s future or the pursuit of Manu Koné, Stankovic returns.
The club see him as next season’s Pio Esposito.
Indeed, a young player ready to step up and make the first team his own.
The two even played together in Inter’s youth teams under Cristian Chivu.
At Club Brugge, Stankovic has thrived.
He has forty-five appearances, seven goals, including two in the Champions League, and five assists.
His performances have attracted serious attention.
Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and several Premier League clubs have all registered interest.
Inter, however, hold the trump card, a €23 million buy-back clause they fully intend to activate.
Indeed, his market value has already risen to around €40 million, making the clause outstanding value.
Tactically, he offers Chivu genuine flexibility.
Meanwhile, he can operate as a regista in the 3-5-2, cover for Calhanoglu.
Or alternatively function as a box-to-box midfielder if Inter transition to a 3-4-2-1 or 4-2-3-1 system.
