Inter Milan appear to be one step away from winning the Serie A title, but the Nerazzurri cannot afford to get complacent just yet.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, they’ll face a challenging schedule in the coming weeks, with several high-stakes clashes around the corner.
Indeed, El Toro sustained a calf problem in the first leg of Inter’s fateful Champions League knockout tie against Bodo/Glimt in mid-February.
Meanwhile, the San Siro giants have claimed just one win in four competitive games in his absence.
Furthermore, they’ve gone three consecutive matches without winning for the first time under Cristian Chivu.
Atalanta held Inter to a controversial 1-1 draw last weekend, putting Chivu at risk of stringing three successive Serie A outings without a win for the first time.
However, the Nerazzurri head into Sunday’s away clash against Fiorentina as odds-on favorites to break this drought.
Despite boasting an eight-point lead over runners-up AC Milan, Chivu’s charges cannot take anything for granted.
Indeed, they’ll face top-four hopefuls immediately Roma and Como after the international break.
On the bright side, Chivu should be able to call upon his captain for these high-profile fixtures.
