Inter Milan have made a surprise move to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on loan.
The Italian side want to bring in a midfielder before the transfer deadline as Davide Frattesi nears an exit from San Siro.
Frattesi is in talks withNottingham Forest over a loan move to the Premier League and Inter have identified Jones as a potential replacement. Forest are currently waiting for a decision from Frattesi over the loan switch to the City Ground.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Inter and Liverpool are in discussions over a deal for Jones, which would be an initial loan with an option to buy.
Jones, who turned 25 on Friday, has made 28 appearances in all competitions for thePremier League champions this season, though 12 of those have come from the bench.
Liverpool, however, are likely to be reluctant to let Jones leave unless a replacement can be signed. The Reds are currently without Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez through injury, leaving Arne Slot short of a recognised right-back.
Jones has deputised at full-back on occasion and could feature again at right-back whenLiverpool face Newcastle United in the Premier League this evening.
Inter Milan will not sanction Frattesi's exit without a replacement. Cristian Chivu's side are the current league leaders in Serie A and are competing on three fronts.
The Nerazzurri face Torino in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals next week and will meet Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League's play-off round in February.
