Tonight could be a turning point for Inter’s season.

Indeed, the reigning Scudetto holders take on Barcelona in the first leg of their heavily anticipated Champions League semi-final tie.

After bowing out of the Coppa Italia and slipping to second in Serie A, there’s no margin for error at Europe’s top table.

However, the task ahead is nothing short of Herculean.

Luckily, Inzaghi has welcomed Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries back from injuries.

Therefore, the Frenchman will team up with Lautaro Martinez in the final third at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The dynamic duo has provided the backbone to Inter’s impressive European run.

Now, Marotta hailed this formidable attacking pairing.

“I’d say it’s mainly their technical and physical attributes that make them the perfect pair,” he claimed. “It’s a pity we haven’t seen much of them together this year.

“However, in my opinion, they complement each other really well, and we hope they can help us in this challenge tonight.

“As you know, Thuram has been out for a while, so he won’t be in top shape. But even when not fully fit, his presence is very important.”

“The important thing is to be here at this level,” Marotta continued. “There are only four teams left in Europe and we’re one of them.

“We don’t want to be mere participants, we want to be protagonists.

“Tonight is the first leg of a tie that will conclude next week at San Siro.

“The key is to always stay in the game and never lose our balance against such a talented team. That’s where the biggest threats come from.

“But I’m convinced that today, we have a starting XI we haven’t been able to field for a long time. So I’m sure we’ll have a great match.”

Meanwhile, he thanked Simone Inzaghi for guiding Inter back to Europe’s elite.

“With Inzaghi, you can’t judge based on weeks but on years,” he added. “These have been extraordinary years for the club, and that’s thanks to him.

“So how can we think of letting go of someone like that? In this football world where everything is burned through so quickly, he has managed to create a solid group where his presence is strongly felt.

“He’s the absolute interpreter of our model.”

Despite talks Inter could undergo a significant squad overhaul in the summer, Marotta insists there will be no radical changes.

“Rather than a revolution, I’d call it an evolution. Our process started a few years ago, aware of significant financial difficulties.

“We made a virtue out of necessity and managed to build a quality sporting project.

“Credit goes to everyone, especially the coach, who plays a major role.

“We’re now approaching a season finale where revenues have increased and while that makes us proud, it’s not decisive.

“What counts in football is winning, and that’s what we want to do, as our history and honors show. The evolution process continues.

“We want to invest in players who can be assets both now and in the future.

“We won’t make random signings or go after free agents with high wages.

“Instead, we will focus on players who fit our project and can become long-term assets, all while maintaining a strong core that is already our foundation.”
