Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has issued a public appeal ahead of a decisive vote on the future of San Siro.
Speaking to Il Sole 24 Ore, via FCInterNews, he called on Milan’s politicians to capitalise on what he described as a “unique opportunity” for both the city and the clubs.
Milan City Council will meet on Monday to vote on the sale of San Siro and surrounding land to Inter and AC Milan.
Approval would clear the way for a new stadium to be built, with both clubs committed to investing heavily in the project.
Marotta stressed the importance of the decision for the wider city, not just football.

“Tomorrow is an important day for the Milanese clubs but even more so for the city of Milan,” Marotta said.
“The debate of recent weeks has helped to raise awareness of the situation.
“The current San Siro, however dear to us all, is no longer capable of meeting the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s football,” he continued.
“Many essential services are no longer up to the standards of the city and the two clubs it hosts.”
He added: “I trust in the common sense of Milan’s political class to grasp this unique opportunity.”
“The two clubs are not only willing but eager to make this investment and the owners are ready to support both the construction of a new stadium and the redevelopment of the district.
“The names of the architects involved are tangible proof of this commitment.”
