Inter Milan are preparing for a defensive overhaul with Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij and Matteo Darmian likely to leave next summer as no new contracts appear on the horizon as things stand.

There are currently no signs of renewal talks for the trio and the club has started planning for the future without them.

The exits would leave Christian Chivu without two experienced centre-backs and a versatile option in Darmian.

The 34-year-old has covered multiple roles in defence but Inter now look ready to move on.

This summer could therefore mark a major shift in the backline.

Inter will need to bring in at least two defenders, with Darmian’s role also to be filled.
