Inter Milan’s move for João Cancelo does not rule out continued interest in Marco Palestra, as the club reassess options on the right flank following a growing injury emergency.
The issue has become unavoidable. Denzel Dumfries is sidelined, while Matteo Darmian has also been unavailable, leaving Cristian Chivu short of solutions in a key area of the pitch.
That context explains the renewed focus on João Cancelo, who is pushing for a move away from Al-Hilal.
Cancelo already knows the environment at Inter, having played in Serie A with the Nerazzurri during the 2017–18 season, and is seen as a short-term fix capable of raising the technical level immediately.

However, according to Tuttosport, Cancelo’s arrival would not close the door on Marco Palestra. The Atalanta-owned winger, currently on loan at Cagliari, remains a strong target for the future.
Inter view Palestra as a long-term investment rather than a January solution.
Indeed, with his profile fitting the club’s strategy of lowering the squad’s average age.
The two tracks are therefore not in conflict.
Cancelo would address an immediate need, while Palestra represents continuity and development for the seasons ahead.
With the right flank under scrutiny, Inter appear determined to keep multiple options open.
