Inter Milan will be looking to continue their goalscoring form in April as they host Cagliari at the San Siro on Friday night in a Serie A clash.
Inter Milan is sitting at the top of the table with 75 points while Cagliari is struggling in 16th position with 33 points.
Head coach Cristian Chivu will be without captain Lautaro Martínez, who is sidelined with a thigh strain, leaving a void in the attack.
The defensive line is also stretched, as Yann Bisseck is out with a muscle injury and Alessandro Bastoni has been rested to avoid risking further fitness issues.
Adding to the selection headache, midfielder Petar Sučić is serving a one-match suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
There could be rare starts for Stefan de Vrij in the back three and Ange-Yoan Bonny upfront.
Chivu is also expected to rotate his midfield, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan potentially returning to the starting XI.
Despite these rotations, the Nerazzurri remain heavy favourites as they look to maintain their nine-point cushion at the summit of Serie A.
Manager Fabio Pisacane has his own injury concerns, most notably the loss of midfielder Luca Mazzitelli to a calf injury sustained in their recent win over Cremonese.
The squad continues to be hampered by long-term absences, with Mattia Felici and Riyad Idrissi both out with cruciate ligament injuries.
Striker Leonardo Pavoletti is also a doubt due to persistent knee trouble and will likely start on the bench if cleared.
All eyes will be on Sebastiano Esposito, who is set to face his parent club in red-hot form, having netted three goals and secured one assist in his last five appearances.
The Sardinians will rely on a compact defensive shape led by Yerry Mina and the creative spark of Gianluca Gaetano to cause an upset against the league leaders.
Inter Milan enters this fixture in high-scoring form, having recently secured back-to-back high-octane victories. They showcased significant resilience in their last outing, fighting back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Como 4–3 away from home. This followed a dominant 5–2 thrashing of Roma at the San Siro. Despite a brief winless stint in March, Chivu’s side remains undefeated in its last nine home league matches.
Cagliari recently snapped a demoralising eight-game winless streak by securing a vital 1–0 victory over Cremonese. This result provided a massive boost to their survival hopes, lifting them six points clear of the relegation zone. However, their overall away form remains a concern, with three losses in their last four road trips. Notably, they have struggled against top-tier opposition this season, losing all four league meetings against the current top three teams without scoring a single goal.
Inter Milan: Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, De Vrij; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Bonny
Cagliari: Caprile; Ze Pedro, Mina, Rodriguez; Palestra, Folorunsho, Gaetano, Deiola, Obert; S. Esposito, Borrelli
