Lautaro Martinez makes his long-awaited return to Inter Milan’s starting lineup for Sunday’s Easter showdown with Roma, with the captain set to lead the line alongside Marcus Thuram in what promises to be one of the most significant fixtures of the Serie A season.
Lautaro has been absent since the Bodo defeat in Norway, a spell that has coincided with Inter’s most difficult run of form.
His return, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCIN, is effectively automatic.
He slots straight back into the XI alongside a Thuram they describe as “reinvigorated.”
Mkhitaryan also returns to fitness, giving Chivu welcome depth in midfield.
The selection decisions are largely straightforward.
The only genuine contest is between Acerbi and De Vrij for the central position in the back three, with Acerbi currently ahead.
Two absences complicate matters. Carlos Augusto serves a suspension, while Bisseck has picked up an injury despite remaining at Appiano Gentile during the international break. Both are unfortunate losses.
Otherwise, Inter’s strongest available lineup returns.
Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski and Dimarco form the midfield five, with Sommer, Akanji and Bastoni completing the defensive structure.
Probable Inter XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro.
