Javier Zanetti has expressed his excitement ahead of Inter Milan’s Easter Sunday clash with Roma, describing it as a fixture that history tells us will produce goals, while also backing Italy ahead of the World Cup play-off final in Zenica.

The Inter vice president spoke at the Operazione Nostalgia event at PalaEur, where he also shared a warm tribute to Roma legend Francesco Totti.

“Francesco and I have had a bond for a very long time,” Zanetti said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“I have admiration for him as a player and as a man.”

Zanetti Backs Italy & Dismisses Concerns Over Inter Ahead Of Roma Clash

On the Inter vs Roma fixture itself, Zanetti was characteristically positive.

“It will be a great match, as history shows, it has always been a game with a lot of goals. We hope it goes well for us.”

When asked whether the narrowing of the gap between Inter and their rivals represented a cause for concern, Zanetti firmly dismissed the notion.

“In the last 18 matches we have won 14, drawn three and lost one,” he said.

“I think it can happen. We hope to pick up our journey again when the internationals return.”

On Italy’s World Cup play-off final, Zanetti threw his full support behind the squad.

“On Tuesday we are all behind not just Esposito but every player who will be on the pitch and on the bench,” he said.

“We are all with Rino Gattuso, it is the last step we must take to go to the World Cup. I say that as an Italian.”

Regarding Dzeko’s danger for Bosnia, Zanetti was respectful.

“Edin is a great striker. Regardless of his experience, he shows he still cares, and at 40 that is not easy.”
