Some Inter scouts made a short trip to Bergamo in the last round to monitor Alessandro Romano and Paul Mendy in the match between Cagliari and Atalanta. The former has been one of the early revelations of the Serie A campaign and will most likely earn his maiden Italy call-up in the upcoming break.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri have started earmarking players for the future. The midfielder is considered an excellent prospect with major upside. The striker is more of a work in progress, but he’s very young. He hit the net in such a contest and has scored all his three Serie A goals against the same opponent.
Inter would have to negotiate just with Cagliari should they make a run at Romano and Mendy. The Sardinians signed the former on loan with a €4.9M conditional obligation to buy. He starred at Spezia last season, and Roma agreed to let him go altogether. He played for Switzerland with the youth national teams, but Roberto Mancini convinced him to switch his allegiance.
Instead, the center-forward is a Rossoblù product. He filled his boots with their Primavera side before earning a spot in their first team late last season. He has recorded 4 goals in 15 appearances thus far.
It’s standard due diligence at this stage, and both have looked splendid so far. It’s shaping up to be a big fumble for Roma and for a coach with a good eye for talent. Still, the Nerazzurri are pretty stacked in the midfield already. Instead, their offensive plans will go through Marcus Thuram, as they’ll likely onboard some strong prospects if they move on from their star and anoint Francesco Pio Esposito.
