Lazio’s Serie A meeting with Inter at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday is set for a record low attendance, with both sets of ultras planning to stay away in protest at president Claudio Lotito.
Il Messaggero reports that Inter’s Curva Nord will join Lazio’s organised groups at the Ponte Milvio, and that the visiting ultras will remain outside despite celebrating a 21st Scudetto, in solidarity with the ongoing boycott.
Lazio’s organised fanbase has been shunning home matches since January, accusing Lotito of shrinking the project and prioritising his own interests over the club’s.
They plan an exception for next Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final against Inter to back Maurizio Sarri’s side, in a match that will define their campaign. For Saturday’s league dress rehearsal, however, the Aquile’s core will stay away.
Recent attendances include 2,000 for Genoa on January 30, 5,000 against Atalanta in Serie A on February 14, 4,000 versus Atalanta in the Coppa Italia on March 4, 2,000 against Sassuolo on March 9, 9,000 for Parma on April 4, and 4,000 for Udinese on April 27.
By contrast, more than 50,000 attended the win over AC Milan on March 15 after the organised groups urged supporters to fill their seats.
