Reports in Italy claim that Inter are willing to send young talent Thomas Berenbruch to Serie A side Cagliari, potentially in a permanent deal, but the Nerazzurri want to retain the option to bring the 21-year-old back to San Siro, like they have done with Aleksandar Stankovic.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cagliari and head coach Fabio Pisacane are keen to sign Berenbruch ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Pisacane has had several opportunities to watch the 21-year-old midfielder up close for himself: The Cagliari coach and Inter’s Cristian Chivu regularly met in the dugout as head coaches of Inter and Cagliari’s Primavera sides before being promoted to their respective senior teams, and Berenbruch often impressed when playing against the Rossoblu youth squads.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are prepared to let Berenbruch leave to go in search of regular game time at senior level.
The Nerazzurri do not want to lose the player on a permanent basis, however, which is why they could seek to negotiate either a straight loan deal, or a permanent transfer with a favourable buy-back option.
This was the case with Stankovic, who joined Club Brugge last season, impressed with his performances in Belgium, and was then bought back by Inter, who announced the return of the young Serbian star on Friday.
