Minjae Kim is set to kick off the World Cup with South Korea. While the center back faces a tough challenge on the field, interest from several top European clubs is growing behind the scenes.
Minjae Kim is one of the players being watched particularly closely at the World Cup. The FC Bayern center back will kick off the tournament with South Korea against the Czech Republic in Guadalajara and could find himself in the spotlight for more than just his on-field performance.
As reported by the tz, scouts from Manchester United have been tracking the defender’s development for quite some time. According to the report, the English club is closely monitoring the 28-year-old’s performances, even though no concrete steps have been taken yet.
The Red Devils’ interest comes as no surprise. Despite a few setbacks in recent years, Kim has established himself as one of the most consistent center-backs in Europe. Last season, he won the double with FC Bayern and impressed for long stretches with solid defensive performances.
However, Manchester United is apparently not the only club keeping an eye on the South Korean’s situation. According to the report, several clubs are interested in the Bayern pro.
In addition to Manchester United, Juventus and several top Turkish clubs are reportedly showing interest in Kim. Above all, the fact that the center-back has now overcome his long-standing Achilles tendon issues is likely to have further increased attention on the transfer market.
However, no concrete negotiations or offers are currently known. Furthermore, according to the report, Kim continues to feel at home in Munich. His contract with FC Bayern runs until 2028.

The situation in Bayern’s defense remains intriguing nonetheless. For the upcoming season, club officials are currently planning with Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano, and Kim as the primary options for the center-back positions. At the same time, further changes to the squad could occur.
For instance, the tz reported as early as late April that Hiroki Ito would be allowed to leave the club if a suitable offer were made. Since his move from VfB Stuttgart, the Japanese player has been repeatedly set back by injuries and has not yet been able to establish himself on a consistent basis.
For Kim, the focus is on the World Cup for now. There, the Bayern pro will have his next opportunity to prove his qualities on the international stage. The South Korean’s performances are likely to be closely watched not only by fans but also by numerous scouts.
