Elsewhere, Eartha Cumings was named on the bench in Scotland’s World Cup qualification game against Luxembourg.

After a hat-trick of goals on Tuesday for former City midfielder Caroline Weir, she recorded an incredible four assists as Scotland netted seven at Barclays Hampden.

Scotland lead the way at the top of the table on goal difference after Kathleen McGovern got them off to the ideal start at Hampden Park, slotting home from eight yards after only 36 seconds.

After 10 minutes, captain Weir’s cross was nodded on by centre-half Jenna Clark and crept over the line via a deflection.

Scotland did make it three just after the half-hour mark as McGovern pounced to tap in her second before Clark added her own second.

With 12 minutes remaining, Lauren Davidson stole a fifth with Emma Lawton providing the sixth, but there was still time for midfielder Maria McAneny to curl in the final goal of the evening.

Finally, Sam Coffey played the full 90 minutes in USA’s SheBelieves cup clash with Colombia.

Emma Hayes’ side scored an 82nd minute winner through Alyssa Thompson to retain the trophy for the eighth time.
