Ipswich Town have started searching for a new manager after Kieran McKenna stepped down to spend time with his family. Leeds United will face Ipswich in the Premier League next season.

McKenna guided the Tractor Boys from League One to the top flight, returning as 2025-26 Championship runners-up for next season. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Gary O’Neil is the early favourite to replace him.

In a club statement, Ipswich confirmed he will step down this summer after five seasons. They praised his role in three promotions in four years, two into the Premier League, and the bond forged with supporters after the latest top-flight return.

McKenna said he departs with gratitude, pride, sadness and contentment. After reflecting on another memorable final day at Portman Road and a second promotion last season, he feels it is the right moment to step aside and take a break for family.

Chairman Mark Ashton hailed an extraordinary first managerial spell, saying three promotions in four seasons places McKenna alongside club greats. He admitted he was gutted but respected the decision and stressed the manager and his family will always be welcome at Portman Road.
