Ipswich expert predicts Conor Townsend can get career back on track before Albion return | OneFootball

An Ipswich Town expert believes Conor Townsend can revive his career as he closes in on a return to Albion.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 33-year-old left-back is undergoing a medical on Friday ahead of rejoining the Baggies, two years after leaving for Suffolk.

The second year of his Ipswich spell was wrecked by an ACL sustained in pre-season in France on the eve of last season. He did not play a Championship minute, was left out of the 25-man squad, and returned to late-stage rehab in March.

In his first campaign under Kieran McKenna he made 10 appearances, six in the Premier League with three starts. Those starts came in a home draw with Villa, an away win at Bournemouth and a defeat at Wolves.

Signed for around half a million as cover and competition for Leif Davis, he looked dependable when called upon and was regarded as a positive dressing-room presence.

He was one of several former Albion players to head to Portman Road, including defenders Darnell Furlong, Cedric Kipre and Dara O’Shea, plus goalkeepers Alex Palmer and David Button.

Should the move be completed, he would be understudy to Albion’s Callum Styles, a reliable regular since replacing Townsend in 2024 and a two-time player of the season award winner last term. It was a real shame how his Ipswich stay unfolded, and the club still need proper back-up at left-back.
