Omari Hutchinson could be set to leave Ipswich Town this summer
Ipswich Town's Omari Hutchinson could be set to leave the club this summer following relegation from the Premier League amid fresh reports of a release clause in the playmaker's contract and subsequent interest elsewhere.
The Tractor Boys will be returning to the Championship alongside Leicester City and Southampton after just a solitary campaign in the top-flight, having gained promotion in second place last time out under Kieran McKenna.
They have arguably put up more of a fight to stay in the Premier League as opposed to the Foxes or Southampton, but have still fallen short and were officially relegated last weekend as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United, leaving them some 15 points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham United with just four games to spare.
Although McKenna will likely expect to retain the nucleus of the squad which gained successive promotions from League One to the Premier League, departures will be anticipated as we head into the summer transfer window.
Liam Delap, who has scored an impressive 12 league goals following his arrival from Manchester City last summer, is poised to leave Suffolk in the coming months amid a £30 relegation release clause in the young striker's contract, which has reportedly alerted the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
It could, however, turn out to be a similar case with Hutchinson too, with the likelihood of a Portman Road departure seemingly increasing.
According to a recent update from reporter Pete O'Rourke on Thursday evening via his X account, Hutchinson has a relegation release clause in his contract worth around £35 million.
It's said that the clause has prompted interest from a "number of clubs", who all remain undisclosed at this moment in time. Should that clause be activated, Ipswich would land a fairly-significant profit on the fee Hutchinson arrived for less than twelve months ago.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie spoke exclusively to Football League World about Hutchinson and tipped the Town star to attract interest from sides going up to the Premier League such as Leeds United and Burnley, though it is not clear whether the duo are among those considering a move for the England under-21 international.
Hutchinson signed for Ipswich on a permanent basis last summer from Chelsea, signing a five-year contract in a deal said to be worth a club-record £20 million figure, following a productive loan stint in their promotion-winning Championship campaign.
The attacking midfielder scored 10 league goals but has not chalked up quite the same output this time around, returning three strikes and two assists from 28 top-flight matches.
He has still impressed, however, and given his age, it would be no real surprise to see the highly-rated 21-year-old on the move this summer.
Ipswich will naturally be eager to retain Hutchinson's services for a number of reasons.
At 21, he's only going to get better and better in the years to come and has the potential to become a real star in the Premier League, which we have not seen - at least not consistently - quite just yet.
Crucially, though, the Tractor Boys know firsthand just how effective Hutchinson can be in the Championship, and keeping him at the club would hand a huge boost to their hopes of gaining promotion back to the promised land at the very first attempt.
A year's worth of experience at the top level is sure to put Hutchinson in good stead as Ipswich return to the Championship, and if they keep the ex-Chelsea and Arsenal prodigy, you would bet on him to be one of the division's outstanding performers in 25/26.
