Iraq and France are set to face off in Round 2 of their World Cup campaign on Monday at the Philadelphia Stadium.
Iraq are looking to recover after a difficult run of results. They began their group stage campaign with a heavy 4-1 loss to a strong Norway side. Their June friendlies were also challenging, including a 2-0 defeat to Venezuela and a 1-1 draw with Spain. The team is currently without a win in their last three matches and will be aiming for a major improvement.
Iraq have received a significant boost ahead of this tough encounter. Head coach Graham Arnold confirmed that key winger Ali Jasim has fully recovered from a painful neck injury.
Jasim picked up the injury during the match against Norway but is now fit and available for selection. Despite their difficult start, Arnold has stated that his team will approach this game with courage and an attacking mindset.
Iraq are not planning to sit back defensively against the former world champions. Instead, they intend to play with intensity and purpose. There could also be a notable change in goal.
Goalkeeper Ahmed Basil is expected to start in place of the usual first-choice keeper Jalal Hassan.
Iraq understand the importance of this match and know that a positive result is crucial to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Possible Iraq starting XI: Basil; Ali, Tahseen, Hashem, Doski; Bayesh, Al-Ammari, Iqbal, Ali Jasim; Hussein, Al-Hamadi
The match will kick off at 10pm BST on Monday, 22nd June.
