Irish midfielder Tyler Toland joins Durham Women
Durham have continued a busy transfer window with their fifth signing of the summer as Irish international Tyler Toland joins in a free move.
The WSL 2 team enjoyed a good season in the second division last year and now they are strengthening with the hopes of a promotion challenge in 2025/26.
After finishing fourth in the WSL2 last year Durham has a great chance at promotion next season, especially under the new league format that will see the top two promoted to the WSL as it expands to 14 teams.
Tyler Toland is the latest star to join Durham this summer on a free transfer after her old team folded from women’s football.
When Blackburn Rovers withdrew from the football pyramid at the end of June, over 20 staff members were made redundant and all senior players were left without a club for next season.
Many of those players have found new homes in the transfer window and Toland’s move to Durham is a welcome one for the 23-year-old.
The Irish midfielder spent two years with Blackburn where she became an important part of the team’s setup, captaining the side on multiple occasions.
Toland has also been a regular starter for Ireland with 25 appearances on the international stage.
Speaking after her move was confirmed on Tuesday, Toland said: “It feels great to be here. When I’ve played against Durham, I always felt that I’d love to be here. It’s a great club with great ambitions and great people, so I can’t wait to get going.
“I’ve played against the team for two seasons and it’s always been a team that I’ve admired and I feel like I can fit into the playing style. I just want to get to know everyone and get going and see what the season has to hold for us.”
Toland is the fifth player to join Durham this summer, see below for all five of the club’s signings so far.
