Is Arsenal really in the race to sign Maxence Lacroix?

Maxence Lacroix has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with Chelsea also interested in signing the Crystal Palace defender.

The Frenchman has often replaced William Saliba in the France national team whenever the Arsenal defender has been substituted or unavailable. He has also been selected ahead of Ibrahima Konate, highlighting the confidence shown in his abilities at international level.

Lacroix enjoyed an impressive campaign with Crystal Palace last season, helping the club win the Europa Conference League. His performances have established him as one of the finest defenders in England outside the traditional top clubs.

Arsenal Interest Questioned

Many reports have claimed that Arsenal have identified Lacroix as one of their leading defensive targets for the summer transfer window and would like to strengthen their squad by bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea are also pursuing the defender, setting up the prospect of a transfer battle between the two London clubs. Arsenal could potentially have an advantage if they decided to make a serious move, given their need to strengthen key areas of the squad.

However, according to Football365, Fabrizio Romano has dismissed suggestions that Arsenal are currently pursuing the defender and believes Chelsea remain firmly in control of the race for his signature.

Chelsea Remain In Pole Position

Romano said, “For Lacroix, Chelsea remain in absolutely active and concrete talks with Crystal Palace.”

He added, “All parties involved are talking, the ownership, agents of the player… I’m told that reports over the weekend of Arsenal getting involved at the moment are not true.”

Romano also stated, “If Arsenal will jump into it, I’ll let you know, but at the moment the player is fully focused on joining Chelsea.”

While Arsenal continue to be linked with several defenders, the latest update suggests there is no concrete interest in Lacroix at this stage. Chelsea appear to be leading negotiations, although the situation could still change before the transfer window closes if Arsenal decide to enter the race.
