Isaac Schmidt has paid tribute to Leeds United’s “unbelievable” support after sealing a permanent move to Young Boys.

According to Leeds Live, the 26-year-old left-back spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen after a fringe role in the 2024/25 Championship title win, and he feared for his World Cup prospects.

He pursued the switch to Germany after Switzerland boss Murat Yakin privately told him he would make the squad if he played regularly. However, he started only six times for Bremen, logging 676 minutes, a touch over seven full matches.

Signed from St Gallen in 2024, the five-cap full-back made every Swiss squad in 2025 before missing March’s camp and the World Cup, where Switzerland reached the quarter-finals.

Leeds and Schmidt have now agreed to part, leaving him with 14 appearances and no league starts, though he departs with a Championship winners’ medal.

He said the past two years had not been easy and posted a farewell to team-mates and staff, praising the team spirit and supporters, and wishing the club well.

Schmidt is the second sale of the window after Pascal Struijk’s £18m move to Brighton & Hove Albion.
