Isac Lidberg, linked with Benfica in early May, has reached a verbal agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to Sky Sport Germany.
The Bundesliga club are now seeking an agreement with Darmstadt to finalise the transfer in the coming days.
The development leaves Benfica’s pursuit on hold and Rui Costa waiting, with the Swede poised to continue his career in the Bundesliga.
He is valued at around five million euros, and other European clubs are monitoring in case negotiations with Gladbach fall through.
Capped twice by Sweden, Lidberg made 33 appearances for Darmstadt in 2025/26, 30 in Bundesliga 2 and three in the DFB-Pokal.
He logged 2,766 minutes, scoring 17 goals and adding three assists.
Darmstadt finished fifth and missed promotion, and he was omitted from Sweden’s 2026 World Cup call-up.
