According to L'Équipe, a best XI of Swedish players to have featured in the French top flight has been named ahead of France v Sweden in the World Cup last 32 on Tuesday at 23:00.
In goal, Andreas Isaksson, Sweden's most capped keeper with 133 caps, made 70 Rennes appearances before joining Manchester City. Right-back Emil Krafth spent 2018-2019 on loan at Amiens, and centre-half Petter Hansson played for Rennes and Monaco from 2007-2012. Gunnar Johansson played 255 times for Marseille in the 1950s and reached the 1958 World Cup final, while Gabriel Gudmundsson registered 137 matches for Lille from 2021-2025.
Roger Magnusson illuminated Marseille's right flank from 1968-1974, linking with Josip Skoblar as titles arrived in 1971 and 1972, then joined Red Star. Kim Källström logged nearly 300 Ligue 1 games for Rennes and Lyon, winning titles in 2007 and 2008 and Cups in 2008 and 2012. Pontus Farnerud is preferred to Klas Ingesson, whose 2000-2001 Marseille stint was curtailed by injury, with Farnerud topping 200 matches for Monaco and Strasbourg.
Leif Eriksson scored 50 in 178 for Nice before Cannes and helped beat Barcelona 3-0 then lose 0-2 in the 1973 UEFA Cup 32s.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden's record scorer with 62 in 122, starred for PSG from 2012-2016, scoring 156 in 180 games. He partners Gunnar Andersson, Marseille's record marksman with 194 from 1950-1958.
