Isi Palazón has been handed a seven-match suspension, ending his season, and Rayo Vallecano will appeal.
The club said in a statement that it will exhaust all legal and regulatory avenues to defend its interests and those of its players. It added that initial rulings appeared to ignore clear video evidence, and that submissions on Pathé Ciss and Rațiu were not fully examined.
The referee's report proved decisive as the RFEF disciplinary committee rejected Rayo's appeal. He was sent off in the 90th minute for entering the pitch to protest. The ban comprises one match for accumulated bookings, two for protests and four for the insult recorded in the report, the term "sinvergüenza", under Articles 119, 127 and 99.
Isi will miss games against Getafe, Girona, Valencia, Villarreal and Alavés, and will also be unavailable at the start of next season. Rayo's anger has deepened after the CTA, on its Tiempo de Revisión programme, acknowledged two VAR mistakes in the match, one where a penalty on Carlos Martín by Turrientes should have been recommended, and another where cancelling a Rayo goal to give Real Sociedad a spot-kick should not have occurred.
Across 33 league rounds, six errors against Rayo have been acknowledged, the most in Primera, with Espanyol on three. The statement called Isi's punishment disproportionate and akin to punishing a victim, claimed two sanctions had been applied to a single action, and cited remorse, an exemplary record and the chaotic context as mitigating factors.
