In his pre-match press conference, before France play Germany on Sunday, Kylian Mbappé (26) was asked how he felt about Paris Saint-Germain winning the UEFA Champions League without him. Les Parisiens won their first European crown after defeating Inter 5-0 in the final.
The France captain failed on multiple occasions to secure PSG’s first Champions League title. The closest the Ligue 1 champions came to winning the competition, with Mbappé, was when they reached the final in 2020. Bayern Munich ended up the eventual winners, defeating the French capital club 1-0.
Last summer, Mbappé made his long-awaited high profile move to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Many wondered how Les Parisiens would be able to cope in attack without one of the world’s greatest on their roster. However, under Luis Enrique, they have thrived and won an unprecedented treble.
Asked about his former team’s UEFA Champions League triumph, the France captain said, “PSG winning the Champions League without me? It doesn’t affect me. It’s a good thing. In a career, there are cycles. Today, I’m a little more in the eye of the storm. It’s good. I need to work hard to reverse the trend.”
