Board member for sport Markus Krösche, head coach Dino Toppmöller and captain Robin Koch reflect on the 1-1 draw against Hamburger SV in Eintracht’s last game of 2025.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Given the way the second half panned out, it’s two points dropped because we had our chances. The first half was scrappy from both teams. We didn’t have enough control or possession, and we lost the ball cheaply too many times. Hamburg have picked up a lot of points at home and they began with a lot of purpose. We didn’t always show enough composure and weren’t always clever enough. The goal we conceded was avoidable, it was an individual mistake. We were much better after the break, our structure was better and we didn’t give anything away except for one counterattack. That’s how we need to play in every game from the very first minute. We’ve got 25 points and we didn’t lose much ground – we’re still within touching distance of the European qualifying places. We can be pleased with the points we have.”
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It was a hard-fought and exciting game that ended in a fair result. We wanted to take all three points but we knew that HSV aren’t easy to play against at home. We didn’t start well and we conceded the opening goal. But then we scored a fantastic goal, it came about in exactly the way we’d planned. We tweaked a couple of things at half-time and then played really well. Some of the lads were running on empty today. Now it’s time to take a breather, then we’ll start the new year with renewed energy and drive.”
Robin Koch: “Obviously we wanted all three points and to go into the winter break on the back of a victory. We didn’t play well in the first half. We didn’t find enough solutions on the ball and were too harmless up front. We improved in the second half but didn’t manage to reward ourselves for that. So in that sense, it doesn’t quite feel enough. The winter break comes at a good time for us. We’ve got a number of injured players. I hope the lads will be back soon in the new year – including those who are fit but have played an awful lot. So now it’s about switching off for a few days and then starting again in the new year.”
