Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney hasn’t been impressed by the attitude Marcus Rashford has displayed since his return to the club.

The 28-year-old has returned to Carrington this summer after spending a year and a half on loan between Aston Villa and Barcelona.

The versatile attacker is a Man Utd academy product who was considered the club’s most important player at one point, but became an exile during Ruben Amorim’s reign.

Wayne Rooney sensed a negative approach from Marcus Rashford

After a positive season at Camp Nou, Rashford was expecting Barcelona to buy him on a permanent basis, only for the Catalan giants to drop him in favour of his younger compatriot, Anthony Gordon.

But luckily for the Manchester native, he found himself a new ally at Carrington in the shape of his former teammate, Michael Carrick, who was happy to reintegrate him into the squad.

On Saturday, Rashford made his first appearance in a Man Utd shirt, and it ironically came against an AC Milan side coached by Amorim.

However, Rooney noticed some of the negative signs that plagued Rashford’s last few years at United, arguing that the forward didn’t display the right demeanour.

“It’s such a strange one with Marcus. We know he’s got the ability, he’s shown that, but has he got the hunger? Does he want to play for Manchester United,” said the 40-year-old on the first episode of his new show, Stick to United (via UtdXclusive)

“I’ve been there, in 2010, when I asked to leave the football club. Then I stayed. You have to rebuild the relationship with the fans and the easiest way to do that is to work hard and work on your body language.

“I think Marcus’ body language, even when he came on. It isn’t great. He might have to work with someone to make his body language look better.”

Can Rashford revitalise his Man United career?

When it comes to Rashford’s talent, almost everyone would agree that he’s one of the most talented players of his generation.

But while he managed to showcase in some of his campaigns, there are times when he went missing, probably distracted by off-the-pitch events.

So even though Amorim may have been too extreme in his ‘witch-hunt’, the player had certainly given him a reason to completely omit him from his plans.

Therefore, Man Utd fans can only hope that the last 18 months or so had served as a learning experience for the England international, but his road to redemption begins by heeding to Rooney’s advice and start displaying a staunch desire to help his boyhood club achieve its objectives.
