Scott Parker watched on as Saturday’s match ended Newcastle 2 Burnley 1.
Eddie Howe’s side deservedly winning the game, although it should have been a three or four goal winning margin.
Scott Parker though declaring to ‘an incredible performance’ from his Burnley side.
The former United midfielder stating it was ‘probably our best performance of the season.’
Burnley had a go in the first quarter of the match and forced a series of corners, however, in reality they created very few chances across the match.
By the time Bruno Guimaraes scored direct from a corner after half an hour, Newcastle had seen a number of chances go begging already.
Anthony Gordon coolly slotted home from the penalty spot just before half-time and with Burnley having already gone down to ten men when Elanga was through on goal and brought down, it looked set to be a more than comfortable win.
However, Burnley dug in and worked hard across the second half, whilst Newcastle United failed to finish them off as chances went begging. Burnley getting some late hope when they scored from the penalty spot in added time.
Scott Parker talking after Newcastle 2 Burnley 1:
“It was an incredible performance from us.
“That was probably our best performance of the season.
“A lot of learning has been done over the course of the season and today, how the dynamics of the game panned out, there were some hammer blows.
“We have had good performances but at times we’ve lacked a certain intensity to our game.
“We had to defend, we had to be gutsy, we got ourselves right back into the game and we had a chance [to equalise] as well.
“The biggest thing now is that these players have set a bar with this performance.
“It is a young group that is developing and today’s performance is how I want us to look.”
