Italy players in Premier League: Calafiori double assist, Tonali worries | OneFootball

Riccardo Calafiori continued his goalscoring contributions for Arsenal with a pair of assists against Leeds United, Federico Chiesa appeared off the bench for Liverpool again, but there are injury concerns for Sandro Tonali after his run-out against the reigning Premier League champions on Monday.

Here is how the Italy internationals in the Premier League got on this weekend

Calafiori attacking form continues

After scoring in the opening match of the season last weekend, Calafiori continued his form in front of goal with two assists in Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Leeds United this weekend.

The former Bologna centre-back, again playing on the left of a back four, provided the ball over the top for Viktor Gyokeres to claim his first ever Arsenal goal, and later got a touch before Jurrien Timber’s second of the game.

He is now up to three goal involvements from his last two Premier League outings.

Tonali, Chiesa and Leoni battle at St James’

Three Italian names were on the teamsheet for Liverpool’s 3-2 thriller away against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Monday night.

Chiesa, who was also on the scoresheet last weekend, appeared off the bench, again around the 80th minute, but it was teenager Rio Ngumoha who found the late winner for Liverpool this time around.

There was also room on the Liverpool bench for new signing Giovanni Leoni, who joined the Reds in a €35m deal from Parma earlier this month.

Italy international Tonali also lined up as a starter in Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool. He was brought off after 66 minutes, however, with Eddie Howe later adding that the injury ‘doesn’t look good’.

How the other Italy internationals got on this weekend

Italy hopeful Michael Kayode played the full 90 minutes and helped Brentford to a clean sheet in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at the GTech Community Stadium. He has since appeared as a substitute in a 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario picked up his second clean sheet in a row in the Premier League during Tottenham’s impressive 2-0 victory away against Manchester City, following a 3-0 win over West Ham in the opening weekend. Destiny Udogie was not involved as he continues his injury recovery.

Italy’s Wilfried Gnonto was a starter for Leeds United in the aforementioned 5-0 defeat against Calafiori and Arsenal.

Diego Coppola had to watch on as his Brighton and Hove Albion teammates lost 2-0 away to Everton in the hosts’ first Premier League match at their new stadium.

Luca Koleosho and Emerson Palmieri were not involved for Burnley or West Ham respectively.
