  1. Manchester City teammates are set to clash on the world stage as England face an encounter against high-flying Norway.
  2. England defender Marc Guéhi will lead the defensive task of neutralising lethal club teammate Erling Haaland, who currently finds himself at the centre of the tournament’s Golden Boot race.
  3. Speaking directly to the FA’s media channels ahead of Saturday’s clash in Miami, Guéhi promised the individual matchup will be “fun” despite the immense physical challenge.

Manchester City will see a number of stars go head-to-head in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup, including during the meeting between Norway and England.

The blockbuster tie became locked in following a dramatic round of 16 phase that saw Norway make history in reaching a first-ever World Cup quarter-final berth through a 1-2 win over five-time champions Brazil, courtesy of a double from Erling Haaland.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel’s England side survived a chaotic encounter at the Azteca Stadium, outlasting tournament co-hosts Mexico 2-3 despite a second-half red card shown to defender Jarell Quansah.

While the Three Lions boast City representation in their squad through the likes of Nico O’Reilly, defender Marc Guéhi, and new midfield signing Elliot Anderson, they face the unenviable task of stopping arguably Europe’s most feared striker.

Erling Haaland has been in predatory form throughout the tournament in North America to date, sitting joint-second in the Golden Boot race with seven goals alongside Kylian Mbappé, and behind Lionel Messi’s eight strikes.

Marc Guehi looks ahead to “fun” Haaland battle

Now, speaking on the latest episode of the Lions’ Den, Marc Guehi has looked ahead to facing Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian forward in remarkable scoring form so far at the competition.

“It’s going to be fun! It is going to be fun, and I know he (Erling Haaland) will be up for it,” said the England defender.

“It’s going to be a challenge – it will be good to see some familiar faces, and we are going to try and do our best and try to get the win.”

Marc Guehi’s stellar 2026 so far

Guéhi, who moved to Manchester City in January, knows the scale of the challenge better than most by conceding seven goals against Erling Haaland in domestic fixtures whilst starring for Crystal Palace prior to his January move to the Etihad Stadium.

However, England’s defensive unit as a whole has shown remarkable resilience ahead of the quarter-final showdown with Norway, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Miami, with a coveted semi-final spot on the line.

As both squads land at their respective bases in Florida, all eyes will be on whether Tuchel’s tactical framework – shielded by midfield anchors Declan Rice and Anderson – can successfully neutralise Haaland’s unstoppable physical dominance, or if Norway’s fairytale World Cup will continue all the way to the final four.
