Liverpool have opened talks to sign a French star.

Liverpool it seems like are doing absolutely nothing. Which is a concern given how active they were in the market last summer and how active they really should be in the market this summer as well.

Sure the World Cup is on right now but surely not every target on Liverpool's radar is at the tournament, especially now that we've entered the final stages of the competition.

The truth is though is that Liverpool are likely making moves, we're just not hearing about it. Michael Edwards has always preferred to operate that way. The best deals he has ever done have been ones conducted in secret, and then boom Liverpool unveils a new signing from nowhere.

Think Fabinho, or Victor Munoz more recently. The reality is that Liverpool are likely doing a lot of business of the Munoz kind this summer.

It's why Liverpool fans simply have to exercise patience. Rome was not built in a night, and neither are transfers done in a single day.

There is no denying Liverpool are making midfield signings a big priority this summer, and sporting director Richard Hughes is already getting the ball rolling on what could be a busy window.

As Anfield Watch understands, the Reds have put together a pretty ambitious shortlist of midfield targets as they look to freshen up the squad for next season. Liverpool usually like to move early in the market so new signings have time to settle in before the campaign starts, and it sounds like that approach is already in full swing.

Hughes and the recruitment team are believed to be working on a number of potential deals behind the scenes.

One reason midfield has become such a focus is the uncertainty around a few key players. Alexis Mac Allister's contract talks have reportedly stalled, while Curtis Jones is heading into the final year of his deal. Add in the growing rumours linking Jones with a move to Inter Milan, and it's easy to see why Liverpool are preparing for changes.

Right now, the expectation is that the club will try to bring in at least two new midfielders this summer. And if both Mac Allister and Jones end up leaving, that number could increase even further before the window closes.

One player who will be on the club's radar is Khephren Thuram he is someone who is very admired and has been for several years.

A long way back before his move to Juventus, Liverpool were interested in Thuram during the same summer they signed the trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Now that one of those could be leaving it's fitting that Liverpool are reportedly back in the conversation for the French international.

According to Ekrem Konur Liverpool have opened talks with Juventus over the signing of Thuram. But they are not the only ones, the likes of Manchester United and PSG are also holding conversations with the Italian giants.

It's that last club that is the concern. Right now any player would love to play for PSG, especially a French player.

But at least this is proof that Richard Hughes is doing his job. Finally something is happening and Liverpool are at least exploring moves.
