It’s not just Bayern: BVB is also keeping an eye on the Portuguese star | OneFootball

FC Bayern is closely monitoring the transfer market and has its sights set on many players who could be in the spotlight again this summer. One of them is now also being scrutinized more closely by BVB. 

We’re talking about defender Tomas Araujo, who currently plays for Benfica in Portugal. According to Sport1, Araujo is reportedly set to play a role in BVB’s plans.

It is reported that BVB scouts were at the stadium in Houston for the Portuguese team’s first match against the Democratic Republic of the Congo (1–1). The defender played the full 90 minutes in that game.

Bayern Not the Only Club Interested in the Portuguese Star

Most recently, Real Madrid and FC Bayern were rumored to be interested in the player. A release clause of 80 million euros may generally complicate a transfer, but none of the interested clubs would be willing to pay that amount. If it came down to it, Benfica would have to compromise anyway.

Araujo, who joined the youth academy of Portugal’s record-holding champions in 2016, is under contract with Benfica until 2029 following a contract extension in December 2024. He’s had a very good season with Benfica, which is why he went into the World Cup with confidence.

It will be difficult for BVB to sign him, as the club’s financial situation is not as rosy as that of its rivals in Munich or Madrid.

At FC Bayern, the situation in the defense is such that, aside from left-back Nathaniel Brown, a new player will only be signed once revenue has been generated from sales. In the defensive unit, Hiroki Ito and Min-jae Kim are the leading candidates.

Both are on the market, but there are currently no concrete offers for either player. For this reason, the Araujo situation is not a priority for Bayern’s management at the moment.
