Urko Izeta, 26, has reflected on Athletic’s campaign in a social media message. The player said in a post that it had been a difficult season, things had not gone as they wanted, the supporters deserved more, he was grateful for their backing, and that he learned a lot.

He signed off on the final day by scoring his first official goal for Athletic at the Bernabéu in a 4-2 defeat, a moment he will not forget.

It was a challenging year personally too. He made 16 appearances, with only three starts, and had limited prominence. For him, representing Athletic remains an honour.

He also saluted the recently retired Iñigo Lekue, thanking him for his guidance this year and the example of team values.

Izeta extended his contract a year ago until the end of June 2027. Due to a lack of minutes he sought to leave, but Ernesto Valverde kept him in the squad. His future is unclear following the arrival of Edin Terzic.
