Jack Grealish calls on Everton fans to create “fortress” at Goodison Park | OneFootball

Jack Grealish says that Goodison Park can become a fortress for Everton in their Women’s Super League campaign – and called on fans to get behind Brian Sorensen’s team.

The 30-year-old signed on loan for the men’s team earlier in the year – and though they’ve now moved into the Hill Dickinson Stadium, he has very strong memories of the times he’s played at Goodison Park with his previous clubs.

“Listen, I’ve had so many tough games [at Goodison] over the years,” Grealish said to Everton’s TV channel in quotes reported on their website. “I know what the atmosphere can be like, so I think it would be nice for people to go and support them and get behind them.

“I think it can be like a fortress for them and I think it would be really good for them to play with that sort of atmosphere and to get as many people there as possible, I think it would be brilliant.”

“It’s good to see women’s football progress”

Grealish – who is on loan to Everton from Manchester City, and previously pulled the strings for his childhood club Aston Villa – added that he had enjoyed seeing the growth of the women’s game in England.

“I think women’s football is coming on so much since I think when England won the Euros at Wembley, especially since then, and it’s so good to see,” he enthused.

“I think it’s incredible from Everton to give Goodison Park to the team because I feel like it’s like theirs now to go and perform.”

“Goodison Park is a magic place”

Everton’s women’s team previously played their home matches at Walton Hall Park, which is now being used for academy matches and the local FA Women’s National League side Liverpool Feds.

Sorensen has previously called Goodison Park “a magic place” and said last week before the team’s official moving-in date on Sunday: “We can’t get enough of being here, we want to really make it our home.

“Goodison Park is a blend of a new era and the history that is here. I love the quote: ‘you don’t become an Evertonian, you are born it.’ I told the girls, we have inherited something historic.”

However, the Toffees did not get off to an ideal start, losing that fixture 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. Their next WSL match is also at home, on Friday, 19th September, when they face London City Lionesses.
