The Hatters boss has said that the club are expected to let go of two of their forwards before the summer transfer window closes.

Luton Town will be hopeful of gaining promotion back to the Championship this coming season after narrowly missing out on the play-offs in 2025-26.

The Hatters, led by former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, finished seventh in the third tier standings last term, missing out on a place inside the top six by a solitary point to both Stevenage and Bolton Wanderers, with the latter ending up returning to the Championship.

In a bid to be situated towards the top end of the League One table, Luton have been active in the transfer window by bringing in five new faces, which consist of forwards Gideon Kodua and Callum Marshall, midfielder Kasey Palmer and defenders George Johnston and Harrison Ashby, holding a hope that a mix of experience and fearless youthfulness can strike the right balance and see a promotion push unfold.

But after their summer spending so far, an area where Luton are particularly stacked is in the forward department, with the

Hatters now possessing as many as six options on their books heading into the new League One season.

Along with Kodua and Marshall, Luton also have the likes of Nahki Wells, Devante Cole, Lasse Nordas and Jerry Yates as options to call upon.

But Wilshere appears to have deemed this too much to have at his disposal and has addressed the future of the two latter forwards, confirming that he expects the duo to depart Kenilworth Road before the 1st September deadline to balance the books.

As per a report by Luton Today, Hatters boss Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he expects forward duo Lasse Nordas and Jerry Yates to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes.

After their summer spending on two additional forwards, Luton now have as many as six striking options in the squad, and in an attempt to balance the books, Wilshere has backed the pair to move on to different challenges before the 1st September deadline.

On Nordas, Wilshere said: “We’ve got three nines (Nahki Wells, Devante Cole and Marshall), two that were involved last season, and we’ve just brought in another one.

"So for Lasse, Lasse is training, is working, he’ll probably want to move on for his own career and to get playing again. I know he went on loan last season, and he played games, when you’re a player, that gives you the feeling that you want to come back and if you’re not going to play games here, then you want to move on. I’m not sure how close we are to anything, but potentially yeah.”

Meanwhile, speaking about Yates, Wilshere added: “It’s the same with Yatesy. Again, Yatesy, a top guy who even last season when I first came in, I felt he was a bit unfortunate at times, where if one or two of his opportunities had dropped and gone in, it might have gone different for him. But he went out in January, played a lot of games, and again he’ll have the same feeling that he’ll want to continue playing games and that might be difficult here.”

No surprise at Lasse Nordas, Jerry Yates exits after Luton Town goal scoring struggles

Out of the six forwards Luton Town currently have available, it isn’t a surprise that Lasse Nordas and Jerry Yates have been the ones circled to leave the club, with the duo failing to find the back of the net on a regular occurrence.

The 24-year-old Nordas has had a tough introduction to English football after joining from Norwegian outfit Tromso back in January 2025.

After gaining regular game time under Matt Bloomfield last term, he hasn’t been as favoured under Wilshere, with just two starts under the current Luton boss leading to him being loaned out to Dutch top-flight outfit Heerenveen last January.

It means Nordas has only netted four goals in 27 appearances for Luton, and after failing to be spotted in their pre-season preparations, it’s highly likely he won’t be a Hatters' player for too much longer.

They’ll be even further disappointment with Yates, who was touted as a marquee signing after his arrival from second tier side Swansea City, but after just seven goals in 29 matches, was loaned out to then struggling Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday in the same January, and he too has not been included in any pre-season matchday squad since coming back to Kenilworth Road.
