At 101, former Athletico and Corinthians midfielder Jackson Nascimento is revisiting the story that binds the two clubs, having played only for them and won with both. According to Globo.com, his memories continue to resonate across generations.

Living with family in Itajaí, he was born in 1924, the year Athletico were founded, and turned 100 alongside the Furacão. With his 102nd birthday a month away, he still speaks emotionally about the club.

Jackson came through Athletico’s youth ranks and stepped up to the first team in 1944. Five years later he was part of the side whose dominance earned the club the Furacão nickname. He is Athletico’s second-highest scorer with 143 goals in 196 appearances, behind Sicupira.

He left Athletico only once, accepting an irresistible offer to join Corinthians in 1950. He scored 35 goals in 57 games there, winning the 1951 Paulista, and departed in 1953.

In 2024 Athletico honoured him at the Arena da Baixada, his face featured on a giant flag and a commemorative patch on the players’ shirts. He said he spent his life at the club, that in every Athletico win he was the goalscorer, and that the team scored past everyone and lost to no one across Brazil, which is how the Furacão nickname stuck.

Today the football connection is kept alive by his great-granddaughter, Gabi, 14. A forward with Avaí Kindermann’s under-15s in Santa Catarina, she also plays football 7 and was Copa América silver series champion in Montevideo last year.
