Jaka Bijol has addressed his Leeds United minutes and has been handed Slovenia’s armband for this break by new Slovenia boss Boštjan Cesar, with Jan Oblak injured.
According to Dnevnik, the 27-year-old described selection as a constant battle, said he is content with his situation and that some weeks are better than others, adding he gives everything when chances come.
The £15m summer arrival from Udinese waited until late October for his Premier League debut, then started 18 of his 22 outings. Daniel Farke’s switch to a back three improved his prospects, although James Justin has remained strong competition.
After conceding a penalty at Chelsea in February, he went a month without a league start. Improved form has brought three successive starts, and Leeds kept a clean sheet in each.
Farke has previously spoken of Bijol’s captain qualities. The defender addressed the media on Monday before friendlies against Hungary and Montenegro.
He has captained Slovenia five times before, including his most recent appearance, a 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Sweden in November.
