Leicester City prospect Jake Evans scored his first senior goal for loan club Northampton, but the Cobblers lost 3-1 to Wigan.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, interim manager Colin Calderwood said the finish deserved a brighter backdrop and that, with games and maturity, Evans has an excellent chance of a good career.
The 17-year-old skipped past a defender and used the outside of his foot to give his hometown side hope. A prolific scorer at youth level for City, he now has a platform to build on.
Northampton have taken just one point from their past 10 League One fixtures and are 13 points short of safety with 15 to play for, leaving them on the brink of relegation.
Evans said the goal meant a lot after earlier near misses, and he kept his celebrations muted given the scoreline. He added that the fans’ reception surprised him, and that early doubts about his age have eased as he aims to help the club.
