Jake Evans has pledged not to repeat last summer's pre-season mistake as he targets a place in Leicester City's first-team squad next season.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, after a handful of Premier League outings under Ruud van Nistelrooy, the 17-year-old assumed his spot was secure and did not do himself justice in pre-season. He accepts that must change this summer.

He did not make a senior appearance this season, was an unused substitute four times under Marti Cifuentes, and scored eight goals in 15 games for the Under-21s before a second-half loan to Northampton in League One.

The forward endured a grim run with his hometown club, who were relegated to League Two. He scored a couple of goals and was man of the match as the Cobblers lost their 10th straight game at home to Barnsley on Tuesday.

Back at City, Evans will be a strong contender to feature regularly in League One. He can play on the right wing or up front, turns 18 in August, and his pathway could open with Abdul Fatawu expected to be sold and Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew set to leave when their deals expire.
