Spurs spurned the chance to move four points clear of drop zone

Jamie Carragher has pinpointed Antonin Kinsky’s last-gasp save from Sean Longstaff as a key moment that could keep Tottenham in the Premier League.

The Czech goalkeeper tipped Longstaff’s effort in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time onto the crossbar with the score at 1-1 between Spurs and Leeds on a tense Monday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side were chasing a third straight victory that would have pulled them four points clear of West Ham United in the battle to beat the drop, after the Hammers were beaten by Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday.

The result in north London leaves Spurs just two points clear of their rivals with two matches left to play, but the gap could have been as little as one had Kinsky not produced a superb stop to deny Longstaff late on.

"The save from Kinsky onto the bar from Longstaff is one of the saves of the season,” Carragher said on Sky Sports afterwards.

"The two saves he made, one in the first half, one in the second half, have made sure his team has got what could be a vital point.

"The only save that I can think that made me go 'Wow' was Jordan Pickford at Newcastle. That is certainly up there.”

Kinsky has been De Zerbi’s first-choice shot-stopper by default since the Italian’s arrival, after Guglielmo Vicario underwent surgery on a hernia problem.

Vicario has yet to return to training from the procedure, and it remains to be seen whether he will play again this term as Spurs continue their relegation run-in.

"He's got a presence about him that is better and looks more confident than Vicario,” Carragher continued.

"It must be the greatest save he's made in his career. To get your arm up that quick. Longstaff couldn't believe it. It makes his save in the first half look like a walk in the park.”

Kinsky endured a torrid European debut when he made two fatal errors in Spurs’ heavy Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid earlier in the season, and then-manager Igor Tudor hauled him off after just 17 minutes at the Estadio Metropolitano - a decision that was blasted afterwards.

"Who would have ever thought that he would probably ever play for Tottenham again, off the back of what happened at Atletico.

“You'd have to have a heart of stone if you didn't feel delighted for him.

"Everyone thought his Spurs career was over a couple of months ago. That could be the save that keeps them in the Premier League."
