Jannik Vestergaard has left Leicester City after five years at King Power Stadium.
The club said in a statement that the defender’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent, noting he made 118 appearances and helped win the 2023/24 Championship title.
The 33-year-old had not featured in pre-season and had been in talks over an exit. He joined from Southampton under Brendan Rodgers in August 2021 for around £15 million.
He was instrumental in promotion back to the Premier League in 2024, although he endured three relegations in five seasons at the club.
After falling out of favour under Ruud van Nistelrooy then Marti Cifuentes, he departs with one year remaining on his deal.
His exit is likely to be the first of several centre-back moves this summer. Wout Faes is expected to depart after returning from his loan spell, while Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli have interest from Europe.
